Katie Holmes talked to Elle magazine about preparing to play the iconic Jackie O. in the History channel miniseries ‘The Kennedys.’ You can read the entire interview in the February issue of Elle, which hits newsstands January 17, but here are some excerpts.
On preparing for the role by watching old footage of the Kennedys:
“[Tom] watched everything with me; he found it fascinating.”On playing the former first lady:
“I worked as hard as I could, because I loved her. On set there was this feeling that we had to create something very special, because these people were very special.”On Jackie Kennedy’s strength:
“I didn’t realize that she had lost a child in August and then [Jack] was assassinated in November. I couldn’t believe it. She had so much strength….I loved her love of family, how important it was for her to be a good mother.”

Look at that face! Oh what a doll! Always love to see celebrity babies!Here’s Rebecca Gayheart at the park yesterday morning with a male friend and daughter Billie Beatrice. Rebecca’s child was already in the park with her nanny and the actress stopped by for some fun. Another celebrity without makeup this morning. Two in one day! I’ll take it!
Rebecca and Billie played on the swings and slide while the nanny took a little break. The actress looked like she was having a blast with her baby girl. It’s such an amazing stage, isn’t it? Everything is new, fun and magical for a child when they are that young. Really sweet…

I always love to see celebrities without makeup on because it reminds me that actresses have imperfections just like the rest of us. In the day and age of Photoshop, it’s sometimes easy to forget.
Here’s Debra Messing leaving a salon with no make up on. She looks pretty surprised to see the paparazzi. Debra’s someone we don’t get to see very often, so this is a real treat.
According to IMDB, the actress has no work lined up for next year. Here’s to hoping she lands a gig and soon! Love that girl.

Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel and Blair Underwood helped deliver the Golden Globe nomination announcements this morning. I am loving Katie’s look here. So often we see her looking tired, but here she is glowing.
Catherine Zeta-Jones and her mom bundled up and headed out in the cold NYC weather this afternoon. I wonder if celebrities enjoy this weather because it gives them an excuse to pull their scarves up over their faces and avoid the paps a little bit.
‘Dexter’ star Michael C. Hall is seen out and about for the first time since the announcement of his split from wife Jennifer Carpenter.

Just when you thought Vancouver couldn't get more festive, now we in Vancouver have Katie Holmes's birthday to celebrate.Katie's in town while her husband, Tom whathisname, makes his latest Mission Impossible flick. By chance, she turns 31 on Saturday and with any luck Happy Birthday will replace that damn MI theme they're pumping out all over downtown. Or maybe it's Christmas schlock, it all sounds the same. (Someone's off his meds today...)
It must be great being a celebrity, 'cuz I bet Katie and her kid, Suri, really appreciated the paparazzi scumbags flocking to Stanley Park last evening to annoy mum and daughter while they choo-choo'd around on the mini-train and waded in the goose guano that delights townies and tourists alike.
This just in from several of those online sights that provide spiritual fulfillment for truth-seekers everywhere: After Katie and Suri met Santa and a snowman in the park they went — wait for it — to a nearby burger emporium for something to eat. The goss sites don't mention what they ate, but rumour is it was something they had to, you know, chew.
Another respected online journal of record reports that the very fact Katie's here with Tom pretty much dashes "media reports" (aka gossip-site bs) that the couple's marriage is on the rocks. Whoa, that's a relief! After Ryan and Scarlett split, another celebrity rupture would just about slurp the whole year down the drain for us seekers of wisdom.
Not that marital woes hurt a career. Heavens to Betsy, as the Finns like to say, Sandra Bullock's divorce from that biker jerk earlier this year helped her win People magazine's Woman of the Year accolade. Take that, Kim Kardashian!
Anyhow, Happy Birthday, Katie. And take all that "It's all downhill from here" stuff with a grain of salt. The rich and famous live forever. In our hearts. Or something. [Update: We have learned from Sun's celeb suprema Katya Holloway that Tom and Katie have just flown back to the U.S.A. Vancouver weeps. She also informs me that some of our upstanding celebrity photographers are less than thrilled with me. Dunno why.
Katie Holmes Is Having A Bad Week
Most of us have given up on trying to figure out Katie Holmes and her universe long time ago. Maybe one day Isabella and Connor Cruise would write a tell-all book revealing the secrets of their father, his wives and Suri's wardrobe, but until then all we can do is wear our "Save Katie" t-shirts and dream of a Pacie-Joey reunion.
As for these two looks, I really can't figure this out. For someone who shops at Hermes as often as I go to Whole Foods, one would really hope Katie can put together better outfits. Especially since both photos were taken in NYC today, and I can tell you neither one is weather-appropriate.

Katie's Final Bow
Sunday evening will mark Katie Holmes's final performance in the Broadway play All My Sons after a run of four months. Can you believe she has been gracing NYC for that long already! And she NEVER once missed a performance! It will be sad to see her go, especially without our daily dose of cutie Suri. There's something perversely fascinating in this photo of Katie Holmes and the ever adorable Suri shopping in NYC (more here) and emerging from the Hermès boutique with matching shopping bags. These photos are just as cute as the ones of Angelina and Zahara with matching Valentino Histoire bags. But is it the state of our economy that makes one raise an eyebrow? Or are we just jealous? I honestly cannot tell.
I wonder: If I were on the same budget as the Holmes-Cruise family, would I take my nieces on a similar shopping spree?

Katie's Nails Speak Volumes
The interesting thing in this photo of Katie Holmes is her nail polish (you'll need to click on the picture to see it full size). While I'm not a fan of blue nails, there's something fresh, fun and even rebellious in her choice of an aqua color. It's as un-Stepfordish as it gets.

Suri Joins Katie and Her New 'Do
Suri is now in town! The mother-daughter duo have been spotted around NYC at playgrounds and attending shows like "The Little Mermaid." And p.s., what do y'all think of Katie's new do! I love it so much, I've been slightly considering chopping off my own locks!

- The new face, according to the NY Magazine. I don't know if I should run to find a plastic surgeon or just hide under my bed.
- The nose doesn't forget, according to the NY Times. A scientific explanation to why smelling Colours by Benetton still makes me misty eyed.
Fragrance:
- I tested the new Estee Lauder Sensuous three times so far. It's not interesting enough to me for an actual review, but I see why it has a mass appeal. It's not a typical Lauder and it's better done than most of the things you'd find in Macy's. I just can't get excited about a sugar-glazed wood. Maybe I'll try again when the parfum version comes out.
- Lancome Magnifique- I smelled, I shrugged, I forgot. Anne Hathaway deserves better than this (seems to be the theme of her life lately).
Skin Care:
Speaking of Lancome, they have launched a new serum in the Secret de Vie range. The moisturizer is still my holy grail, so I might have to get it. I tried it at Saks today and it seemed nice. And despite what the SA told me, you can get it directly from Lancome. The Saks exclusivity was her excuse for the lack of samples. I'm getting seriously fed up with department stores and their employees. Thankfully, there's always online shopping.
Makeup:
- Among all the new collections for fall, some older and worthy makeup items are going to the great makeup counter in the sky. Alison Raffaele is discontinuing a whole bunch of makeup products and brushes. If, like me, you're a fan of her soft glosses, this is the time to stock up and hoard. Too bad there's no special discount. Besame Cosmetics, on the other hand, offer all their discontinued items (labeled Au Revoir) at amazingly low prices. With the adorable packaging and exceptional quality, this is one good bargain. The website doesn't make it easier to find them, though, so you'll need to search each category.
- At the total opposite end of the spectrum you'll find Giorgio Armani's fall makeup collection. The Python Palette is giving me a bad case of coveting. It's gorgeous, but is it $100 gorgeous?
Celebrities:
Katie Holmes is bringing ugly back. Who would have thought we'd ever see the tight rolls making a comeback? And, yes, it does make your butt look bigger.
