Just when you thought Vancouver couldn't get more festive, now we in Vancouver have Katie Holmes's birthday to celebrate.
So, last night, major happenings in NYC! The Costume Institute Gala brought out many an A-lister to The Met and I just happened to be eyeing the red carpet as the stars were arriving. And by happened to be there, I mean I walked by on my way home and was across the street, stuck behind paparazzi and other ecstatic, not to mention screaming and waving (yes I waved) fans like myself. Although I didn't get a chance to see my love George Clooney (so upset!), I did show up just in time to catch a glimpse of actual superheroes welcoming guests at the bottom of The Met stairs, Mr. Big, Jason Lewis (hard to believe, but even more good-looking in person) the Beckhams, Tom and Katie, J.Lo, MKO (oh sorry, aka my abbreviation for Mary-Kate Olsen, who I'm sure just loved hearing my shout out to her and her sister), Mr. Lagerfeld himself, Blake Lively (so excited to see Serena considering I was missing Monday's ep. of Gossip Girl to star gaze), Valentino, Bonjovi, Eva Longoria and the list goes on.
Tom Cruise escorted Katie Holmes – in a dazzling strapless Armani dress – to her premiere, but made sure not to steal the spotlight from his wife. Instead he let her work the press solo while he walked across the street to sign autographs and take photos with fans. The actor was similarly supportive during the making of Mad Money, Holmes said. "Having [20-month-old daughter] Suri and Tom [on set] was wonderful," she added. "You think you love to do something and then you have the people you love there. It makes it a billion times better and you didn't realize you were missing that before. It's like 'Oh my God, life can be this good.'" Katie Holmes only had kind wishes for Nicole Kidman. "I'm so happy for her," Holmes, 29, says of Kidman's pregnancy news. "It's wonderful." Kidman, 40, confirmed earlier this week that she and husband Keith Urban are expecting their first child together. The actress has two adopted children – Connor, 12, and Isabella, 15 – with ex-husband Tom Cruise.
Tom Cruise has bought a seven-bedroom Beverly Hills estate for an estimated $35 million. According to insiders, the 70-year-old home was not actually up for sale when the War of the Worlds star made his offer. The new pad will replace the Beverly Hills home Cruise has been renting for the past four years, and will house wife Katie Holmes, children Suri, Connor, and Isabella, as well as his sister and her family and his mom.
Scientologist actress Jenna Elfman is defending Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes's relationship amid reports that the couple's five-month marriage is not a happy one. "Honestly, they're happy," says the pregnant actress. "They have a great life and they love each other. For some reason, the media cannot experience that. They must put in things other than the simplicity of it." Elfman says recent tabloid stories that Cruise controls Holmes and forced her into Scientology are definitely false. "It's totally irrelevant, because it's so absolutely not that," she says. "It's hard to give a detailed explanation on something that simple. Honestly, do any of you have a great boyfriend or girlfriend? It's not a big deal, right? You have fun hanging out, and you like talking and sharing your ideas. It's exciting. That's their relationship."
Happy birthday, Suri Cruise! The adorable celebrity offspring of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes turns one today. Reps for the couple would not release details of Suri's birthday celebrations, but she is believed joining mom in Shreveport, Louisiana, where Holmes is filming Mad Money with Queen Latifah and Diane Keaton.
A woman was arrested in front of Tom Cruise's Beverly Hills estate. The 32-year-old transient was arrested for receiving stolen property and violating a court order, though the terms of that order are unclear. The woman is currently being held on $45,000 bail in a Beverly Hills jail. The same woman was ordered to stay 500 feet away from actor John Cusack late last year after Cusack claimed she showed "an unusual interest by stalking, throwing a long letter of interest over my fence in bags with rocks and screwdrivers inside."
The grandson of German officer Claus Schenk Graf Von Stauffenberg has expressed his family's concerns about plans for Tom Cruise to play his grandfather in an upcoming film about the would-be assassin's attempt to kill Adolph Hitler. "I have nothing against him and can even separate his work from his beliefs in Scientology," said Stauffenberg's grandson. "But I and other family members are worried that the picture will be financed by the sect and be used to get across its propaganda. Unfortunately the family Stauffenberg can do nothing about this. My grandfather is a figure from history."
Tom Cruise has signed on to star in a war drama based on a true story about an attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler at the height of the second world war. Cruise was originally slated to produce the film, but after a number of meetings was offered the lead role. "After reading the script, Tom and I knew immediately that this was a film that we had to make," Cruise's production partner said. "As an added bonus, because of [director] Bryan Singer's involvement and Tom's admiration for him as a filmmaker, as well as the excellence of the script, the project attracted Tom as an actor. I cannot think of a more perfect combination of creative elements for our second production." Does this woman's over-the-top gushing make anyone else want to vomit?
