Kanye West Clarifies Britney Spears Comments in Vintage Twitter Rant

After trash talking Britney Spears on Twitter about her new #1 single and how he "let her" have the top spot, Kanye West feels the need to clarify.

Because it's Kanye, some people assumed this was Taylor-Gate reloaded. But he was seriously not trying to start a feud with Spears, West insists.

Naturally, he took to Twitter again to rectify the situation.

I'MMA LET U BE #1: It was a joke, people!

Aside from his inability to spell Britney, and the fact that the Shift and 1 keys on his MacBook are going to fall off, his ramblings are fairly well reasoned, funny and self-deprecating. Mostly. Here's what the much-maligned rapper had to say:

    Just saw that MSNBC said I tried to start a twitter war with Brittany.

    This shit takes the air out my lungs sometimes from blogs to news reports… enough already!!! All I do is focus on my work.

    There's a new lie everyday… a new media spin… I never got a watch with my face on it!!! A company tried to give that to me 9 yrs ago!

    I'm one of the most considerate people in real life. Maybe over considerate. Over caring. Overly real.

    There is no astronaut training for celebrity… even though this whole life is so outer space!

    I was actually surprised that a record as raw as H*A*M could make it to #2 on Itunes.

    How can u "let" someone be number one??!! That was the whole joke!!! I know intelligent people know this so bear with me.

    When I said the comment about Brittney I was giving her props for being #1 not dissing her at all!

    But stop making it seem that my aim is to hurt or down people! That's just not my style!

    As pop stars we're all in this shit together! We on the inside of the TV!

    If the media wants to make a story … just say I have atrocious spelling and terrible grammar…

    If you don't give em a story they just make one up. I'm just trying to focus & stay creative! Keep bringing dope shit to the world!

    Once again thank you to all my fans who made MBDTF certified platinum!

    You all give me the power and I never take it for granted. I am an extension of my listeners.

Kanye West Trash Talks Britney on Twitter

Kanye West pulled a Kanye West and trash talked Britney Spears and her #1 single, "Hold it Against Me," on Twitter. Jokingly, we think. Mostly.

"Yo Britney, I'm really happy for you and I'mma let you be #1, but me and Jay-Z's single is one of the best songs of all time! LOL,” Kanye wrote.

West's Tweet, of course, is a reference to his infamous Taylor Swift MTV VMA speech hijacking and to Kanye’s new song "H.A.M." (featuring Jay-Z).

While West later removed the Tweet, Spears' manager Adam Leber appeared none too impressed when he responded on the pop singer's behalf.

"Thanks for 'letting' us be #1," Leber wrote. "Much appreciated."


West later apologized for it, telling fans, "On a serious note I'm truly happy for Britney Spears. No hate in 2011... I thought LOL signified a joke."

Typically yes, but when you're a total loose cannon, sometimes the public won't automatically assume you're lighthearted or poking fun at yourself.

In any case, these guys aren't kidding about taking town Brit.

Kanye Has Something To Smile About

Looks like Kanye West will not face felony charges for the paparazzi scuffle involving him and his road manager, Don Crowley, at the LA airport earlier this month. Crowley has also been let off the hook for felony charges. Kanye blogged about the incident, saying, "We back in the lab!!! I'm cool with the paparazzi. This guy wasn't cool."

The Grammys Celebrate 50 Years

With performances by Beyonce and Tina Turner, Rihanna, Kanye's emotional tribute to his "mama," and Amy Winehouse's much-anticipated (via-satellite) performance, (not to mention her shout-out to incarcerated hubby Blake) the Grammys were definitely something to tune into last night.

Although not present in L.A., but rather in her hometown of London, Winehouse almost had a clean sweep, winning five out of the six awards she was nominated for, including record of the year, song of the year, and best new artist.

Kanye dominated the Grammys as well, winning four awards, including best rap album and best rap solo performance. Not only did he pay tribute to his late mother Donda in song, but also spoke to her in his acceptance speech.

Carrie Underwood went home with two awards, best female vocal performance and best country song for "Before He Cheats" and Alicia Keys, who opened the show singing with a virtual Frank Sinatra, took home the prize for best R&B song for "No One" as well as best female R&B vocal performance.

The last award of the night was given to the very surprised jazz artist Herbie Hancock for album of the year, beating out both Winehouse and West.

Best Pop performance by a duo or group with vocals: Maroon 5
Best rock album: Foo Fighters
Best contemporary R&B album: Ne-Yo
Best rap/sung collaboration: "Umbrella," Rihanna featuring Jay-Z
Best male country vocal performance: Keith Urban
Best country album: "These Days," Vince Gill
