Celebrities turned out to support Charlize Theron at her 2010 Annual Charlize Theron African Outreach project dinner held at The Darby restaurant.

Charlize and Liv Tyler were very huggy and happy as they laughed it up on the red carpet together. I am loving Liv’s look here! It’s so fun! And Charlize looks absolutely stunning, as always. She reportedly auctioned off a date with herself as part of the fundraising efforts. She agreed to attend the Lakers game with whomever won the tickets being auctioned off if they donated an extra $20,000.


Jon Hamm and his girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt, and Petra Nemcova were also in attendance.

Charlize’s organization strives to help at-risk children and communities in South Africa, with a focus on AIDS/HIV. Charlize, who is a native of South Africa, has been a part of this initiative since 2007.

Liv Tyler Presents: Perfection

I'm back from Paris, tired and perfumed. There are many stories to tell, shopping advice and fun discoveries to share, but I'm too jet-lagged to make sense or form full sentences. Instead, I'd rather stare at Liv Tyler at the Christian Dior show of Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week. It's great to see her looking so perfect (after a couple of bad red carpet choices: here and here). While I'm not sure about the shoes, she brings back some classic Hollywood glamor (Janet Jackson notwithstanding).

What say you? Do you like the shoes?

What Would Arwen Wear?

Liv Tyler makes heavy silvery-smoky eye shadow appear like the prettiest thing ever, and I'm usually not a fan of this look. Since she's the face of Givenchy cosmetics, this might have been done with their Shadow Show in Stylish Grey and Star Diamond (and a good blending brush), but I think it can also be achieved using the Les Argents 46 eye shadow trio from Bourjois. It almost makes me want to try it. Another thing I love about Liv's makeup is the real color of her skin and of her lips. No orange face and weird fake nude lipstick.


Her blue Stella McCartney dress is another matter, though. I don't know if it's the fabric or the cut, but the result is less than flattering. I also don't like the way it hemmed. It's almost like someone did a quick and careless job adjusting the original dress you see below on Stella herself (from the NY Costume Institute party last month) to the shorter length. Not that I liked it all that much on Stella, either.

Another bad case of the 80s

Liv Tyler is so gorgeous she can get away with everything. Almost. It could have been worse, I guess. She could have paired this reject from my 80s closet with a matching pair of godawful leggings, so we should be thankful for only being subjected to this sweater dress.

Now to something completely different from the same event (the NYC premier of Iron Man). I would have liked Gwyneth Paltrow's dress a lot better without all the armpit cleavage. And, am I the only one who sees a creepy face in the cut-out pattern?

Givenchy Pop Gloss

A couple of months ago I was very happy to find a full range of Givenchy makeup at my favorite Sephora, the one on Union Square. I'm all about DIY and prefer to avoid the department stores sale assistants.

I'm fond of Givenchy and love their choice of spokesperson. Liv Tyler can sell me anything and everything. Except of some of those Givenchy scents.

I first looked at the eye shadows. The quartets are pretty but too light for me. The singles offer more drama and pigments and I'll have to give them more attention very soon. My favorites of the collection are the lip colors. There's a lot to choose from and the colors are fabulous.

Pop Gloss is a shiny, creamy product. No shimmer or glitter, just glossy color that goes on smoothly and has a lot of pigment, almost like a liquid lipstick. It isn't sticky and lasts for several (food-less) hours, keeping the lips comfortable and well-moisturized. After the shine fades there's still enough color left on the lips without flaking. I have one complaint about this gloss: I don't like its scent. It's some unidentified synthetic fruity concoction. Thankfully, it disappears quickly, so it's not a real issue. But a product as good as this deserves better.


My color of choice was Violine Vitamine, which lives to the promise of being a vibrant plum. It's flattering and brings out my natural color. The pale lipped/skinned amongst you would probably find it a bit too much (try Flashy Fuchsia or Exciting Coral, instead. I'll wear those colors in my next life), but the rest of us can wear it well into the fall.
